Ice Dreams Soda Shop

This little ice cream shop was so cute. It is basically a cola cola paraphernalia hoarders dream.  b3EY46kN4Okw2nxX.jpg

The owner collected all kinds of coca cola trinkets and decorated the shop with it. Along with their ice creams, they had cold and hot drinks to choose from. Cash only!1Paqa1r8qz9sZJdh.jpg

I got some crazy ice cream with chocolate fish in it.M5YpMLpTKxaGR2zH.jpg

WSPLmLA5fcT2EZlp.jpgIt kind of reminded me of my mom, because she drank one coke a day, and loved the polar bears and those old school coca cola glasses!

Bala Bay Inn

fY8mqkzvx7G4StSK.jpgMuskoka is wonderfully scenic. Lakes, the trees, the rocks. I love it. I want to go back. The place we stayed in was called the Bala Bay Inn. Super cute, super old. So old that it has a ghost. Don’t worry, he’s friendly. Luckily for me, I didn’t even notice his was there, because I’m scared…of everything, in general.sAzMwsGmc1d39Qkz.jpgLocated right across the street from a place that you can rent stand up paddle boards, canoes, and kayaks, this makes it a great location. It’s also walking distance from Jasper Park (where the wedding was held). The Inn is know for it’s restaurant, which serves brunch on Sundays, and is open for lunch and dinner on weekends.

Qq1gZL0RZbBUvSAo.jpgThe colors inside are bright and fun. Not what’d you expect from an old place. The staff is SUPER friendly, and helpful. And the restaurant is delicious.

uXnN6EP19Xo4OnGg.jpgOur room was literally just a room. You get a bed, a desk, a set of drawers and a chair. Well I mean you also get a bathroom, but that is it. Don’t go on a lake vacation and look for technology. The wifi was shotty, if you got any at all. At least it was from our room. But that’s okay. The point of being out here, is to enjoy the break from the busy city life right? Some people had TVs in their room. Which was a tiny box. We didn’t have that. There also isn’t a phone in the room. So get your exercise in and walk downstairs if you want to talk to the front desk.

I’m not complaining though. I really really liked it there. It’s the forced break I really needed. And the exercise! Did I mention how great and helpful the staff is there? I definitely want to go back there, if I need a real BREAK from city life.

Refreshed

We are back from vacation, and just as I predicted, it was all I needed. After a grueling 12 hours in the car, we made it home. I am happy and ready to tackle my to do list with a new joie de vivre.

The cottage was beautiful. So much bright light reflecting off the lake. The temperature was perfect. The only thing to complain about, if you want me to be realistic, is the mosquitoes. Muskoka Mosquitoes. They are huge, relentless and the boss of this town. Everyone was spraying every 30 minutes just to prevent being eaten alive.

There were lots of water activities to participate in… which I didn’t, because I am terrified by bodies of natural water. However, the honey did get me in a canoe. That didn’t last very long. Luckily he got in with our cousin and they power rowed so far away from us, and caught a fish!

It was so great to be back around family. I feel like all my female relatives are in Canada, while I’m stuck in America with all the boys!

We made a pact to see each other at least once a year. 2 years in a row so far!

There are too many cute babies in this family.

The lake life, is the good life. More posts later! For now, time to catch up with my life! Thank you so much for having us Amy!

My maman wasn’t buried in the ground. She was cremated, and her ashes were spread in the ocean in Dewey Beach, Delaware, where she first got on a surfboard. She wanted to be scattered in the ocean because she loved traveling. She didn’t want her body and spirit buried in the ground, but free to travel where the waves take her. Because of this, we feel her presence the strongest at large bodies of water. And because we can’t leave flowers at a grave, we release flower petals in the ocean.

Rose Island, Bahamas

This is clearly just another excuse to show you pictures of paradise, and wish I was there. On our trip, we took a boat to a private island, to spend the day on an even MORE beautiful beach (could that even be possible?)

TQ9kiseDfTYnViLV.jpg

No one lives on this island, and it pretty much is a party island. You can snorkel, hang out on hammocks, or drink all day…or all of the above.

Dune: Jean-Georges Restaurant

pVYtrU9BJAxGSajN.jpg

After our engagement, we had dinner at Dune Restaurant at The One & Only Ocean Club. The restaurant was beautiful. They had a koi fish pond leading up to the door, and 3 sides of the walls were glass. There was indoor and outdoor seating, but we opted for indoors because we were still warm from that crazy walk we had earlier.

We started off with bread, and infused olive oil. You got your choice of which infusion of oil you wanted.

I chose the prosciutto wrapped pork chop over a bed of glazed mushrooms. So simple yet so delicious. The meat stayed steaming until the end. The flavor combination was perfect, well seasoned and I just ate it as is. It’s a fairly large portion, and I was sad I couldn’t finish it!

The service was great, like all the service on the islands. We were originally sat next to the window but a large crowd of drunk and rowdy patrons came into our section. The server offered to move us to another table in the other area. We did. We were put in a crowded center table, but as soon as the window freed up, they moved us there and said, “It’s only fair right?”. Since we were at the window originally. They were very thoughtful, friendly and attentive.

If you are on Paradise Island, and looking for a fabulous semi formal place to dine, I’d definitely suggest Dune.

Surprise! Bahamas.

qkLmwRbprQTWWsvL.jpg

Last year for my birthday, we went to Hawaii. I thought that couldn’t be topped. He did it big, and he did it better this year. And it was completely unexpected. In the weeks leading up to this trip, he mentioned that we were going to take a weekend getaway “south” about 3-4 hours away. Me thinking I am Sherlock, assumed that it would be a ROAD TRIP to North or South Carolina.

I was completely wrong.

Friday morning, we loaded up the car, and I thought I was headed to work, but no. I soon realized we were headed to the airport. Freaking out, because I am type A and need to be prepared for all situations, I exclaim that I am not packed for the airport. He says he’s got it covered, and when we parked, he pulls out a bag of small empty containers. Time to dump my full sized goodies into tiny bottles.

mTvaToeqJO5SbKJY.jpg

We walk into the terminal, and he hands me my passport. WAIT, WHAT. I’m not prepared to go out of the country!? We made it through security and sit down at our gate. I still have no idea where we are going. He hands me my boarding pass. WE ARE GOING TO THE BAHAMAS?!…I’m not packed for the Bahamas!!? I had jeans and sweaters in my luggage. Lucky me, he packed my flip flops, bathing suits and “summer” clothes.

It was a complete surprise, with much more in store. I was so happy to escape the snow!

Dangerously Delicious

vVkvvn1bNfzfUOn8.jpg

I have a new favorite pie. Not the Baltimore bomb, but THE TRIPLE CHOCOLATE MOUSSE. Holy OH MY. I haven’t found a chocolate mousse that I loved as much as when I was in France. But this pie. Takes the cake.. (haha!) So yes. That my go to slice now at Dangerously Delicious Pies. Chocolate lovers have to try. You’re welcome.

It’s not on the their site though. So it makes me a little sad. I had it at Killer E.S.P. the first weekend in February and it’s all I can think about!

Burger Fi

After barely eating meat for a week,  it was time to enjoy some cow. We drove down to see our friend Anna, where she suggested this kinda new place in her town BurgerFi. They’re burgers are a little on the small side according to the guys, but it was the perfect size for me. They have EVERYTHING that I could possibly imagine to put on a burger. But then again, my burgers are always the same. Bacon, cheese, sauteed mushrooms, pickles…and whatever their special sauce it.
I love it. And you can get fries in multiple ways! Definitely worth a try.

The Little Pastry Chef

We made a quick trip to Princeton, New Jersey to support our team at First Class Fitment. As you already know, I had to get a taste of macarons while I was there. Found this place based off yelp. It isn’t known for their macarons, but there was limited information about macarons so I just took whatever I could get!

Super cute little shop with pictures of the baker’s adorable son everywhere. I am assuming he’s the little pastry chef. A display of cute tarts and mini treats looked appetizing but I was already full from lunch and saw that they had macarons.

I got the pistachio and lemon ones. They weren’t as pretty as I’m used to, and dare I say my pistachio macarons are better? The lemon ones were good though.

Based on the limited selection I would say don’t go out your way to get macarons in Princeton.
